The Visitor Services Officer plays a vital role in providing a warm, professional, and informative welcome to visitors and locals. You will build strong relationships with tourism stakeholders, support the delivery of high‑quality visitor experiences, and ensure smooth, accurate handling of payments and essential administrative functions that keep the section operating efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide friendly, informed, and professional visitor services across face‑to‑face, phone, and digital channels.
  • Deliver accurate and engaging information on local attractions, accommodation, tours, and regional highlights.
  • Manage sales transactions, cash handling, EFTPOS processing, and daily reconciliation.
  • Coordinate accurate bookings for tourism products and services.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with tourism operators and encourage industry participation.
  • Assist with administrative and operational tasks to ensure the Visitor Information Centre runs efficiently.
  • Uphold excellent communication and customer service standards at all times.

Essential Criteria

  • Certificate III in Tourism or equivalent.
  • Experience within a tourism‑related industry and/or Visitor Information Centre.
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service, both face‑to‑face and via telephone.
  • Proven sales experience including retail, cash handling, reconciliations, and tourism bookings (tours, accommodation, etc.).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable Criteria

  • Understanding of the structure and operation of the Australian Tourism Industry.
  • Knowledge of Ballina Shire and the broader Northern Rivers region.
