Surveyor Assistant

Job description

Position Purpose

To support the delivery of accurate and timely surveying services that inform infrastructure projects, land development, asset management, and statutory responsibilities within the local government area. The Assistant Surveyor works under supervision to assist with fieldwork, data processing, and survey plan preparation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the execution of field surveys including boundary, topographic, construction set-out, and asset location surveys.
  • Operate and maintain survey equipment including total stations, GNSS/GPS, levels, and data loggers.
  • Collect, process, and manage spatial data for use in Council projects and GIS systems.
  • Support the preparation of survey plans, drawings, and reports using software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, Council standards, and industry codes of practice.
  • Assist with data validation, records management, and archiving of survey information.
  • Collaborate with engineers, planners, and construction teams to meet project requirements.
  • Follow all WHS procedures and actively contribute to a safe work environment.

Essential Requirements

  • White Card (Construction Induction).
  • Confined Space with Gas Testing Ticket (required to enter designated work zones).
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Must have full Australian working rights.

Working holiday visas are not eligible for this role.

  • Experience or understanding of field surveying and/or basic blue-collar work.
  • Competence in using an offset tape for accurate measurement.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow direction.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Understanding of WHS practices and risk management in field environments.

Key Relationships

  • Internal: Engineering, Planning, Asset Management, and GIS teams.
  • External: Contractors, utility providers, community members, and survey consultants.
