Skilled Labourer

Job description

We're seeking reliable and hardworking General Labourers with a valid Medium Rigid (MR) Truck Licence to work across multiple job sites in the Ballina and Byron Shire regions.

You'll be involved in general labouring tasks, site support, and driving MR vehicles as needed. If you're physically fit, have a strong work ethic, and enjoy a varied day-to-day role, this is a great opportunity to work in a supportive team across one of Australia's most beautiful coastal areas.


Key Responsibilities

General Labouring

  • Manual labour including lifting, loading, unloading, and site clean-up

  • Assisting skilled tradespeople (carpenters, plumbers, electricians, etc.)

  • Operating hand and power tools safely

  • Supporting demolition, landscaping, concreting, and formwork tasks

  • Setting up/dismantling temporary fencing, barriers, and signage

  • Keeping work areas clean, organised, and hazard-free

MR Driving Duties

  • Transporting materials, tools, and personnel using MR trucks

  • Conducting daily pre-start checks and basic vehicle maintenance

  • Securing loads and following transport regulations

  • Loading and unloading vehicles safely

  • Driving between sites across the Northern Rivers region

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all site safety procedures and WHS regulations

  • Attend toolbox talks and safety briefings

  • Use PPE as required (high-vis, boots, hard hat, etc.)

  • Report incidents, hazards, or unsafe behaviours immediately


Skills & Requirements

Mandatory

  • MR (Medium Rigid) Truck Licence

  • Construction White Card

  • Full Australian work rights

  • Ability to travel to various job sites

  • Physically fit and able to perform manual labour

Desirable

  • Previous experience in labouring, construction, or civil works

  • Experience using hand and power tools

  • Traffic control, confined space, or working at heights tickets (advantageous)

  • Mechanical aptitude or general maintenance experience

You'll work across a wide variety of projects, including:

  • Residential construction and renovations

  • Civil works - roadworks, drainage, infrastructure

  • Commercial maintenance and fit-outs

  • Council and public works projects

  • Landscaping, concreting, and demolition

Each day brings something different - from transporting materials to helping lay foundations or supporting trades.


Working Hours & Conditions

  • Typical Hours: Monday to Friday, approx. 6:30 AM - 3:30 PM

  • Optional Overtime: Weekend work or longer shifts as required

  • Work Type: Outdoor, physical, fast-paced

  • PPE Provided: High-vis shirts, hard hats, gloves

You'll need to be comfortable working in variable weather conditions and on active construction sites.


Location & Travel

This role is based across the Northern Rivers, covering:

  • Ballina

  • Byron Bay

  • Lennox Head

  • Bangalow

  • Mullumbimby

  • Brunswick Heads

  • Ocean Shores

You must be able to travel between sites as required, with MR vehicle operation being a key part of the role.
