Manager Sustainable Communities and Resource Recovery

๐Ÿ”‘ Key Responsibilities:

Lead Sustainability Initiatives

  • Drive the implementation and continuous improvement of Council's Waste Resource & Recovery Strategy and Sustainable Communities Strategy.

Strategic Environmental Advice

  • Support the Director & Executive team with insights and advice on future-proof, economically viable, and environmentally sound waste and recovery solutions.

Support Council's Growth

  • Provide strategic input to planning and development programs aligned with Council's growth agenda and assessment processes.

Community & Organisational Education

  • Develop and lead education and engagement programs to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices across Council and the wider community.

Manage Environmental Applications

  • Oversee and assess approval applications related to waste/recovery facilities, food premises, on-site sewage, liquid trade waste, and more.

Run Inspection Programs

  • Manage regular inspections and maintain registers for areas such as:
    • Food premises
    • Trade waste
    • Skin penetration
    • Public pools
    • On-site sewage
    • Contaminated land
    • Legionella control
    • Underground petroleum storage
    • Illegal land use

Financial & Grant Management

  • Develop short- and long-term budget and financial plans for waste and recovery operations.
  • Secure and manage grants and funding opportunities to power sustainability projects.

Ensure Legal Compliance

  • Oversee Council's environmental obligations under the NSW EPA, including audits, legal compliance, and licensing in line with the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997.

A strategic thinker with sharp analytical skills and a passion for sustainability. You're a great communicator who's confident working with everyone - from the public to policymakers - and you're ready to lead real change at the local level.

๐ŸŽ“ Your Background Includes:

โœ… Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Health Sciences, or similar
โœ… 7+ years' experience in a related environmental field
โœ… SafeWork Construction Induction Card (WHS White Card)
โœ… Current Class C Driver Licence
