Role Overview - Engineering Division (12‑Month Maximum Term)

In this role, the successful candidate will partner closely with the Roads and Stormwater and Infrastructure Delivery teams to deliver clear, timely and effective communication and engagement around major infrastructure projects and operational works.

This position plays a critical role in helping the community understand what work is happening, why it's happening, and how it may affect them, particularly in relation to:

  • Road upgrades and maintenance
  • Stormwater and drainage programs
  • Capital works and infrastructure delivery
  • Construction impacts, traffic changes and disruptions
While the role sits within the central Communication & Engagement team, day‑to‑day work will be embedded with engineering business partners, providing hands‑on support for project‑based communication and engagement needs.

This includes:

  • Translating highly technical engineering information into plain‑language, community‑friendly messaging
  • Supporting project teams during active construction phases
  • Delivering communication that manages community expectations, disruption and risk
  • Supporting engagement with impacted residents, businesses and stakeholders
This role suits someone who is comfortable working in operational, high‑visibility environments and who enjoys helping technical teams communicate clearly and confidently with the public.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with Roads, Stormwater and Infrastructure Delivery teams to plan and deliver communication and engagement for infrastructure projects
  • Develop and deliver construction‑phase communication including:
    • Project updates
    • Disruption notifications
    • Website and Your Say Tweed content
    • Signage, letterbox drops, newsletters and digital updates
  • Support project teams with community engagement activities related to capital works
  • Coordinate communication for traffic changes, construction impacts and service disruptions
  • Ensure messaging is accurate, consistent, timely and aligned with Council's brand and engagement frameworks
  • Work closely with engineers, project managers and delivery teams to anticipate communication risks and community issues
  • Support reputation management during sensitive or high‑impact projects
