Spinifex Recruiting is partnering with a leading Northern Rivers council to appoint a Senior Engineer - Development (Water & Wastewater). This is a critical role supporting the assessment and approval of water and wastewater infrastructure associated with subdivision and development in a high‑growth region.

This opportunity is ideal for a senior engineer who enjoys working at the interface between development, infrastructure, legislation, and asset stewardship.

The Role

As Senior Engineer - Development, you will lead the assessment of development‑provided water and wastewater infrastructure and manage statutory approvals under relevant legislation.

What You'll Do

  • Assess development and subdivision applications relating to water supply and wastewater infrastructure
  • Determine and issue conditions of consent under the Water Management Act and Local Government Act
  • Assess and approve s305 and s68 applications, and issue s307 Certificates of Compliance
  • Provide authoritative engineering advice to planners, developers, consultants, and internal stakeholders
  • Represent Council in negotiations, appeals and (where required) Land & Environment Court matters
  • Lead a small team of professional engineers and contribute to standards, policies, and process improvement

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor of Civil Engineering and eligibility for Engineers Australia membership
  • Extensive experience in water and wastewater engineering, particularly in a development or local government context
  • Strong working knowledge of NSW water, planning, and land legislation
  • Proven ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships and development negotiations
  • Clear communication skills and sound engineering judgement
